Hi, this is my new blog.
I’ve tried this in the past, and I think I, like many developers, got a little too caught up in the technical details. There’s been a few iterations:
- Next.JS
- Astro
- Something homebrewed using Preact
The problem is, the more custom the solution, the higher the activation energy to actually getting something out there. This time, I’m using Hugo, which seems to be fairly opinionated but still very flexible. Hopefully, this will make it easier to focus on the content and make the site look good, rather than the content and presentation taking a backseat to some cool new technology.
I’m coming up on four full years as a professional software developer. This is odd landmark; growing up, my life revolved around school:
- Four years of elementary school
- Four years of middle school
- Four years of high school
- Four years of undergrad
Thankfully, I did not pursue a graduate degree.
Fo(u)r the first time, this span of time will come and go without any major change. I’m a little older, and a little wiser, but I expect things to stay more or less the same come March. It seems like a good time to start refining my ideas for others to see. I’m a lot more willing to admit that it’s scary putting myself out there now. After all, there are people that have been doing this since before I was born - who am I to have thoughts and opinions about the industry?
Anyway, I’m getting impatient and want to get this site online, so that’ll do for a first post.
